I have been using computers since I bought my first Apple in 1979. When IBM brought out the PC in 1981 I bought one as soon as I could get one. I made a switch to the Mac in 1984 but dropped it sometime later that year. Since then I have used either IBM, Northgate, or Dell PC’s.
That changed in May of 2005. I bought a Mac G5 with dual 2.7Ghz processors, 4MB of RAM, Dual 400Gb hard discs, and a glorious 30? monitor. I was hooked. Since then I have a second one of these Macs and bought my wife and daughter Mac Mini’s. Recently I got an Intel iMac and an Intel PowerBook.
Mac’s are a breeze to setup, install software, and use. If UPS made software that worked on a Mac and there were drivers for some printers I would switch the company over to Mac’s today. I have a virus/malware system that runs at night. I haven’t seen any virus on these computers. That might change.
Windows Vista may change my mind and move back, but I doubt it. All the empty promises of secure computing from Microsoft has made me very leary of XP.
I will not buy another Dell Workstation. Why? If you must re-install XP you must have a separate disk for the memory subsystem, video card, SCSI hard disks, etc because the system has these preinstalled and they usually are not part of XP. Maybe that is because I have always bought the top of the line models from Dell. From now on out the Dell’s in this office will always be their high end consumer models. I can buy three of these for the price of one Workstation. My Workstations from now on out will be Mac’s. It’s that simple.
